I’ve been working on a new tarot deck for a while now. It is a compliment to my Dragon Companions Tarot Deck; The Unicorn Companions Tarot Deck
It’s dark, mystical, and eerie.
A deck made for deep shadow work. For those who explore their fears, hidden desires, and the dreams they thought they buried.
I’ll be sharing my full process, the creation of the artwork, and the writing of the meanings.
Watch the video above to see all 78 sketches.
If you're interested in the painting, the channeling, the card writing, the mess, and the breakthroughs.
The very first step, was to get clear on the way I wanted the deck to feel, to choose a colour palette, and the style of the artwork.
In addition to intuition, I will meditate, pull tarot cards, and use astrology to guide me.
I wanted to draw inspiration from the traditional cards and keep the symbolism from traditional artwork, so I created a list of keywords and the energy of each card.
I also did some research on the history of unicorns.
Unicorns carry layers of meaning that can beautifully support the vibe and themes of my dark unicorn tarot deck.
The unicorns in the deck I'm creating represent shadow work, emotional transformation, and buried dreams.
Historically, unicorn-like creatures appeared in ancient seals and art. They were depicted as wild and elusive beings instead of the white, gentle versions that are more modern.
Greek Historians described unicorns as wild beasts. That are fierce and untamable.
Depictions moved from physical strength and wildness to purity and light. In Medieval Europe, the unicorn became a Christian symbol of purity and virginity.
But esoteric traditions maintained the unicorn as a transformative being.
My Unicorn Companions Tarot deck focuses on the darker, hidden, emotional qualities of the unicorn.
In this deck, the unicorn represet our shadowed self.
Unicorns are elusive, they do not appear unless invited or sought with sincerity.
They symbolize the hidden or exiled part of ourselves. The dreams we’ve buried, the innocence we’ve lost, the magic we once believed in but no longer trust.
The unicorns in this deck, dwell in the in-between, as liminal beings, acting as perfect companions for tarot readings that delve into death, rebirth, and emotional change. They will help us recover parts of our soul for healing and reclaiming lost magic.
If you love tarot, shadow work, and the idea of a deck that helps you uncover what’s been hidden within, then I’d love for you to walk this path with me.
